Betty Jean Gipson Tripp, of Gurley, AL, passed away peacefully on January 21 at the age of 90. She was at home surrounded by her loving family. Despite the challenges of a serious medical condition in recent years she showed her courage by facing the challenge with grace.
She was born to Robert and Tinnie Gipson on March 22, 1930 in Roarks Cove, TN. She graduated in 1948 from Franklin County High in Decherd, TN. She was preceded in death by Thomas Carey Tripp, her husband of 31 years.
Known as Mama and Granny, Betty Jean’s, simplest pleasures were found in her church and her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren brought the most joy to her. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who still remembered every child, grandchild, and great grandchild’s age and birthday with a card. She doted on her family and was happiest when her large brood surrounded her. Her hobbies were reading, studying her health books, and painting.
Granny is survived by her seven children: Connie Webster (Darrell), Steve Tripp (KT), Tim Tripp (Liz), Marsha Saylor (Michael), Dan Tripp, Sam Tripp, and David Tripp (Kim). She leaves 18 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.
She was a lifetime member of the Church of Nazarene. Her life was an example of her love and devotion for her Savior.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 24 from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Berryhill Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow directly after at 1 p.m., interment will be at Hampton Cove Cemetery.
