Betty Jean Garrett Self, 72, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2025 at her residence. She was born in Red Bay, AL to J.W. Garrett and Estelle Brand Garrett and was a homemaker.
Graveside services will be Thursday, July 10, 4 p.m. at Halltown Cemetery, Vina, AL with Bro. Mitch Nethery officiating. Burial will be in Halltown Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her significant other, Roy Collins; three sons, Eddie G. Deaton (Meg), Henry Keith Deaton (Vicki) and Tracy Lee Deaton; grandchildren, Dena D. Moses (Kyle), Gina D. Barnette (Jacob), James Russell Deaton, Clarence Edward “Bubba” Pressley and Destiny Nicole Pressley; great-grandchildren, Natalie and Maverick Moses, Braylen Scott, Jasper and Jett Barnette, Sabrina J. Sanders (Ken) and Mya Sanders; one brother, Donald Garrett (Janice); one sister, Karen McCalpin (Don) and a host of nieces and nephews. Other special people in her life who were like sons to her were Kenneth Collins and James Collins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Boyd Self; a brother, J.H. Garrett and a sister, Susie Garrett Clements.
Pallbearers will be Braylen Scott, Phillip Massey, Robert Garrett, Shane Clements, James Collins and Donald Wayne Garrett. Honorary pallbearer will be Shannon Clements.
