Betty Jacqueline “Jackie” Browning Huff went home to her Heavenly Father on February 28, 2021. She was born in Middlesboro, KY on December 4, 1929, to Harry Lee and Gladys Romine Browning. The first in her family to attend college, Mrs. Huff graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from Carson Newman College in 1952. In addition to being a good student, Mrs. Huff was well liked, being selected as May Queen and Literary Society Sweetheart, among other social honors.
On September 14, 1952, Mrs. Huff married her sweetheart, William Auburn “Bill” Huff. They made their home in Huntsville and joined First Baptist Church, where they helped found the Explore the Bible Sunday School class. In addition to serving as Outreach Director for the class, Mrs. Huff supported her husband in his various missions-oriented roles within the church.
Ending her teaching career when her first child was born, Mrs. Huff became a full-time homemaker and mother to not only her own children, but to two foster children as well. When her children were grown, she took a part-time clerical position at Family Medicine of Huntsville, where for 20 years she enjoyed interacting with staff and patients, and was loved by all.
Mrs. Huff was preceded in death by Bill, her husband of 64 years, her parents, and sisters Jocelyn Rowlett and Patricia Newton. Survivors include sons David (Vicki) and Tim (Stacia) of Huntsville, grandchildren Jennifer (Charlie) Wilburn of Huntsville and Jordan Huff of Nashville, TN, and one great-grandchild, Garrett Wilburn of Huntsville. A private graveside service will be conducted at Maple Hill Cemetery by Berryhill Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to support macular degeneration research at BrightFocus Foundation, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, MD 20871, or online at https://support.brightfocus.org.
