Betty Hayes Harper, 89 of Arab passed away Saturday December 7, 2024, at her residence.
Mrs. Harper was born Tuesday February 5, 1935, in Marshall County, the daughter of Oscar Hayes and Mattie Smith Hayes. Until her health became such that she could no longer attend she was a devoted member of the Union Hill FCM Church and also one of the oldest members. Betty was a homemaker, who enjoyed cooking, gardening, her flowers and visits from her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter: Valerie Glass (Jamie) of Union Grove; two sons: Waylon Harper (Cheryl) and Roger Harper (Cindy) both of Arab; twelve grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; a brother: Lowell Hayes (Joyce), sister-in-law: Linda Hayes and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, her church family and many dear friends and neighbors; she was preceded in death by her husband: Boyce Harper (August 12, 2020), her parents: Oscar and Mattie Hayes, three sisters: Ruby Webb (Arlis), Hattie Willis (Hubert), Ina Perkins (Owen), two brothers: Jowell Hayes and Newman Hayes (Gertrude).
Funeral Service was 3:00 p.m. Sunday December 8, 2024, at Union Hill FCM Church with Brother Chris Claborn, Brother Jon Minyard and Brother J T Scott, officiating. Burial was in the Arab Memorial Cemetery, Gober Funeral Chapel, directing.
Pallbearers will be Chris Harper, Riley Harper, Jacob Harper, Ross Harper, Ethan Glass and Scott Mooneyham. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Oliver Taylor, Lynn Harper, Danny Hayes, Mike Still, Greg Still and Elton Haymon.
The visitation for Mrs. Harper was at the church, Sunday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 3:00 p.m.
