Betty Ann McCreless Dinsmore, 86, passed away at home on Sept. 21, 2016. Funeral services will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016 at noon with Dr. Kevin McCreless and Roger Jenkins officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.
Betty was born Feb. 21, 1930 to Alvin Lewis McCreless and Bessie Copeland McCreless. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Decatur. She and her late husband owned and operated Southern Sales, Inc. and Local Mortgage Company. She was instrumental in setting up the Morgan County Adopt-A-Mile Program and was the chairman. She was a member of the Women’s Chamber of Commerce and the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce and was actively involved in various community services and charitable organizations. Betty was an avid gardener and was known for her garden designs, with many garden clubs touring her garden for its beauty and ideas. But Betty will be remembered mostly for her genuine love of people, her infectious laugher, joking and her generosity to all that needed her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lloyd Dinsmore; her parents; a stepson, Charles; brothers, Alvin C. “Tip”, Macon and Bryce L. “Sonny” McCreless and sister, Mildred Wylodean Crowden.
Survivors are her stepson, J. Wilson Dinsmore (Joann) of Birmingham; six stepgrandchildren, seven stepgreat-grandchildren; brother, Malcolm Luveral McCreless (Pat), Decatur; sisters, Doris Eloise Grubbs (Ed), Decatur and Gaynell Matzaganian, Banning, California; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
We extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Scott Matthews and Betty’s caregivers, Kay Stover and Karen Burks, of whom we would not have made it without them. And, also, to Katie Shell, Shenika Young and Lisa Hambright of Hospice of the Valley for the care and comfort they extended to our sister and aunt during her illness.
