Betty Ann Givens Yates, 96, of Florence, AL
Beloved mother, grandmother, teacher, friend, and devoted follower of Christ, Betty Yates passed away peacefully at the age of 96, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and sharp one-liners.
Betty was the proud mother of four sons and grandmother to eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, each of whom adored her dearly (and knew better than to challenge her in Rummikub). She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Charles, her parents, and one cherished granddaughter. We rejoice in knowing that she has been welcomed into her heavenly home, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her, and is now experiencing the joy and glory of everlasting life.
A graduate of Vanderbilt University, Betty spent 25 years shaping young minds as a teacher at Bradshaw High School. She was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church of Tuscumbia, where her kindness, curiosity, and generous spirit were felt by all.
Betty and Charles were seasoned travelers, roaming the globe hand-in-hand, but she was just as happy curled up with a good book or holding court with her close-knit circle of friends playing Bridge. A woman of grace, grit, and a razor-sharp wit, Betty brought warmth and humor to every room she entered.
She was dearly loved by her family, friends, church community, former students, and anyone lucky enough to share a cup of coffee or a good story with her. Betty lived fully, loved deeply, and leaves us all better for having known her.
Though we mourn her passing, we celebrate her homegoing and the promise of resurrection through Christ.
