Bette B. Richards, 85, of Bolivar, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 29, 2017, at her home.
A native of Brownsville, TN, she was the daughter of the late William Cox, Sr. and Mary Louise Benford Cox. Mrs. Richards was a graduate of Haywood County High School and lived most all of her life in Hardeman County. She was the widow of Dr. Aubrey Richards, for whom she also worked as his nurse. Dr. Richards passed away July 22, 1999. She also was active in nursing at Pine Meadows Healthcare in Bolivar and with home health.
She was a member of the Parrans Chapel Baptist Church in Bolivar, but also attended Whiteville Methodist Church and Oliver Creek Church of Christ in Bartlett.
She is survived by two daughters, Betsy Lou Johnston of Whiteville and Beth R. Young of Bolivar; two sons, Jack Johnston (Paula) of Bolivar and Maury Richards (Mari) of Whiteville; four grandchildren, Ashley Young, Megan Young (Karan Nibber), Heather Young Daugherty (Ben) and Adam Nelson Richards (Kimberly); and great-grandchildren, Melah Kelley, Blakeleigh Daugherty, and “one on the way.”
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Cain; a brother, William Cox, Jr.; and a son-in-law, Barry Young.
