Bessie Mae Young Hayes, 82, of Iuka, Mississippi, died Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka. Bess was a member of the Iuka Baptist Church. She was the former owner and operator of Mam’selle Beauty Salon in Iuka, and also previously served as a City of Iuka Alderman. She was a member of the Iuka Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Bess enjoyed gardening, and was well-known for her beautiful yard. Visitation is scheduled for 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 21, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 22, at the Iuka Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to service time. Services will be officiated by Rev. Gary Watkins. Interment will follow in Cypress Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers include Patrick Moore, Steve Curtin, Chris Calton, Mike Wilson, Chuck Dean, Dennis Curtin, Bennett Hayes, and Thomas Sherman. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. Survivors include her husband, Peter W. Hayes of Iuka; two daughters, Donna Solomon (Earl) of Iuka, and Rebekah Fedrick (Lonnie) of Aransas Pass, TX; one son, John Whitner Young (Regina) of Iuka; two grandchildren, Beth Solomon and Whitney Grace Young, both of Iuka; and one great-grandchild, Grant Solomon of Jonesboro, AR. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John H. Young, Jr., a grandson, Ray Solomon; and her parents, Whit and Raymer Wilson (a.k.a. “Momma and Daddy Whit”).
