Bessie Irene Awtrey, 62, of Fort Payne, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2022. She was born June 25, 1959 in Cherokee County, Alabama to the late Milton and Mary Virginia Nail. She was a member of Fort Payne Church of God of Prophecy and worked as a direct care staff member with ARC.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home with Sister Anzella Abernathy officiating. Burial will follow in Walkers Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12 noon until the 2 p.m. hour of service.
She is survived by her daughters Traci Crane (Todd) and Brandi Carr (Dorman); grandchildren Dakota Crane, Paxton Carr, and Liam Carr; brothers Danny, David, Richard, and Jamie Nail; sisters Brenda Hasty, Helen Nail, and Rose Helms.
She was preceded in death by her husband Steve Awtrey; her parents; and sisters Betty Abernathy and Peggy Stone.
