Funeral Services for Mrs. Bernie White Cagle, age 91 of Pulaski, TN, will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville. Visitation for friends will begin at 1:00 P.M. until service time at 3:00 P.M. with Bro. Andy Griggs officiating and burial to follow at McCollum Baptist Church Cemetery.
Bernie White Cagle, lovingly known as “Mama” to her children, “Nana” to her grandchildren, and affectionately known as “Aunt Boone” to her nieces and nephews, went home to be with the Lord on September 19, 2026.
Bernie was born on October 29, 1934, and was raised in Lineville, Alabama. She was the oldest daughter of E.R. and Cordie White, lovingly known to the family as “Mama and Papa White.” She graduated from Lineville High School in 1953 and later continued her education at Birmingham School of Business.
Bernie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Collis Cagle, who passed away on September 12, 1999, as well as her parents, E.R. and Cordie White, and loving brother, Harl White. After nearly 27 years apart, her family finds great comfort in knowing that Mama and Daddy are together again, and that she has also been reunited with Mama and Papa White.
If there was one thing everyone knew about Nana, it was how deeply she loved her family—especially her grandchildren. She never wanted to miss anything they were involved in. Whether it meant traveling miles to be there, sitting in the stands, celebrating an accomplishment, or simply showing up when someone needed her, Nana was there. She spent a lifetime putting herself last and taking care of everyone around her.
And no family celebration was quite complete without her famous “Nana Cake.” It was made for birthdays, holidays, celebrations, and just about any occasion that called for something special. Like so many things Nana did, it was one more way she showed her love.
When she wasn’t busy taking care of her family, Bernie loved some of life’s simple pleasures. She especially enjoyed all-day gospel singing conventions and craft shows. These were some of her favorite ways to spend a day, enjoying the music, fellowship, and the company of those around her.
One of Nana’s greatest wishes was to see all of her grandchildren graduate from high school. She had the joy of watching all but one reach that milestone, with her youngest set to graduate this year. She may have pushed him the hardest of them all. From the time he was five years old, he told Nana he was going to play college football. She would say that she might not get to see it happen, but she knew he would do it because he had always told her he would. Now, when that day comes, her family knows Nana will still have the best seat in the house.
Bernie was the kind of woman who took care of people. She gave freely of her time, traveled countless miles to support the people she loved, and was always willing to help. She was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother, a treasured Nana, a beloved “Aunt Boone,” sister, aunt, and friend. To her family, she was simply the one who was always there.
Most importantly, Bernie loved the Lord. Her family takes comfort in her faith and in knowing that she is now at peace, reunited with the husband and family she loved and missed for so many years.
Bernie is survived by her two sons, Chris Cagle and David Cagle (Jamie); her beloved grandchildren, Cadee, Allie, Bracie, Collins, and Hadley; her sister, Vivian Sloan; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who were blessed by her love and care.
Bernie leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured simply in years. It can be found in the family she raised, the grandchildren she adored, the miles she traveled to be there, the celebrations she never missed, the Nana Cakes made with love, and the countless ways she quietly put everyone else before herself.
She was the heart of her family.
She was Mama.
She was Nana.
She was Aunt Boone.
And she will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
