Logo Icon Bennie Hicks, age 76, departed this earthly life on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany, Mississippi.

In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Bennie will be cremated, and no services are scheduled at this time. The family appreciates your prayers and expressions of sympathy during this difficult time.

Born on December 17, 1949, in Vardaman, Mississippi, Mr. Bennie was the son of the late Bennie Bradford Hicks and Minnie Bell Winter Hicks. After completing his education, he proudly answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. A proud veteran, Mr. Bennie faithfully served his nation during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Sergeant before receiving his honorable discharge. His military service was a source of great pride throughout his life, and he was honored to have served when his country called upon him.

On August 5, 1970, he married the love of his life, Mrs. Sarah Byrd Hicks, with whom he shared nearly fifty-six years of marriage. Together, they built a wonderful life in the Ashland community. Throughout his working years, Mr. Bennie was employed with the Benton County Co-Op, where he became known for his strong work ethic and dedication. In later years, he found great enjoyment in woodworking, a talent that allowed him to create lasting treasures for those he loved.

A faithful Christian and member of Calvary Baptist Church, Mr. Bennie found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing and was rarely happier than when spending time in the great outdoors. A hardworking man with a servant’s heart, he was also a gifted craftsman whose woodworking skills reflected the patience and care he put into everything he did.

Above all else, Mr. Bennie loved his family. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he delighted in spending time with them, sharing stories, pulling good-natured pranks, and creating memories that will be treasured for generations. He was the kind of man who could always be counted on—honest in his dealings, faithful to his commitments, and devoted to those he loved.

Mr. Bennie was truly as good a man as they come. His love for God, country, community, and family defined his life, and the legacy he leaves behind will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In addition to his beloved wife, Sarah, cherished memories will continue to be shared by his daughter, Rachel Anderson; his sister, Martha Miller; three grandchildren, Weston Curtis, Abby Riles (Garrett), and Molly Mitchell (Justin); and three great-grandchildren, Aiden Miles, Curtis Riles, and Clay Mitchell. He was also eagerly anticipating the arrival of another great-grandchild, little Minnie Belle.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bennie was preceded in death by two sons, Bennie Hicks, Jr. and Christopher Hicks, and by a son-in-law, Mark Anderson.

Ripley Funeral Home invites you to share memories and condolences with the Hicks family.
