Bennie Byron “Radio” Gladney, age 88, formerly of Ligon Springs Community, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at his residence in Sheffield.

Byron “Radio” proudly served his nation in the U.S. Army, and he loved telling stories about his military days. He married the love of his life, Sue McAnally at Christmas at First Baptist of Littleville and they enjoyed 64 years together. He was given the nickname “Radio” while he worked at U.S. Reduction because he loved to talk and tell stories. He later worked at Lowe’s and the nickname just stayed with him. He was a hard-working man who loved his family very much. He loved playing music on his bass guitar and played with a well-known quartet, The Royal Heirs. He was a member of the Florence 1st Assembly of God. Byron always had stories and jokes and was a devoted Alabama fan. He leaves many wonderful memories for his family to cherish.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Bennie Gladney and mom, Mildred Gladney; siblings, Keith Gladney, Sara Bryant; and grandson, Elijah Michael.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 64 years, Sue Gladney; daughter, Sonja Michael and husband George, their daughter Melanie Grinnell and husband Clint; great-grandson Griffin; son, Jeff Gladney and wife Twila, their daughter Nikki Tapscott and husband Justin; great-granddaughter Lexie and fiancé Corey and several nieces & nephews.

The visitation will be 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 03, 2025, at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel with Bro. Greg Woodall officiating the service, ending with military honors. The burial will be at Franklin Memory Gardens.

The pallbearers will be Andy McAnally, Clint Grinnell, Griffin Grinnell, Chris McAnally, Phillip Simmons, and Charles Hanson.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of Alabama Hospice of the Shoals for your care.
