Ben Chasten Echols Sr. – Obituary

Ben Chasten Echols Sr., 96, passed away Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at Colbert Memorial Chapel with service to follow. Brother Kenneth Harrell will be officiating. Burial will be in Shoals Memorial Gardens. He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was a retired brick layer and a member of Allied Craftworkers Local No. 9.

Mr. Echols was preceded in death by his parents, Price and Ersey Echols; nine siblings; son-in-law, Jewell Baxter; brothers-in-law, Melvin McCord and James McCord; father-in-law, Leonard McCord; and mother-in-law, Florence McCord.

He is survived by his wife of 68 wonderful years, Dorothy Echols; sons, Ben Chasten Echols Jr. (Alice) and Anthony K. Echols (Lisa); daughters, Linda F. Baxter and Deborah D. Barton; devoted nephew, David Bankston, of Florence, Alabama; devoted nieces, Cheryl Thompson, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Pearl Greene, of Moulton, Alabama; sisters-in-law, Alice Lee and Betty McCord, both of Flint, Michigan; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Idris R. Echols, Dr. Justin T. Echols, Jonathan P. Barton, Jonathan Brooks, John Warren, and David Bankston.

Honorary pallbearers will be Zacharee Harrell, Shawn Smith, Randy Williams, Avion T. Echols, and Don King.

Special thanks to Melinda Smith, Grace Gunn, Emma Zills, and staff of Keller Hospice for the excellent care given to our dear grandpa.
