Baseball Major League’s Heinie Manush is Subject of Program at Colbert Landmarks Foundation Meeting

TUSCUMBIA-The quarterly meeting of the Colbert County Historical Landmarks Foundation will be held on Sunday, February 17, at 2:00 in the afternoon at the Helen Keller Public Library, 511 N. Main St., Tuscumbia.  The program will be presented by Annie Perry and the Tuscumbia Bicentennial Committee for Heinie Manush Day. A biographical sketch of the famous Major League Baseball player from Tuscumbia will be included along with an update on the activities planned for April 5-8 to honor Manush as part of Tuscumbia’s participation in the Alabama Bicentennial. Henry Emmett Manush (July 20, 1901 – May 12, 1971) was an American outfielder, playing for 20 years from 1920-1939, 17 years in Major League Baseball for the Detroit Tigers, St. Louis Browns, Washington Senators, Boston Red Sox, Brooklyn Dodgers, and Pittsburgh Pirates.  He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1964.
