Barbara Nell Bridges, 86 of Jackson, passed away on September 7, 2023.
She was born on November 20, 1936 in Jackson to the late Walter and Mary Hampton Young. She was a graduate of J.B. Young High School and was very active in basketball. Mrs. Bridges worked at the Bemis Brothers Mill early in life. She retired from the Jackson Madison County School System as a bus driver. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Bemis where she attended the Sunshine Sunday School Class and enjoyed working with the Comforter’s Group at the church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Ray Bridges; brothers, Walter Craig Young, Perry Joe Young, James (Red) Young; sisters, Wanda Johnsey, Mary Jesse King, Orpha Ann Shytles, and Brenda Sue Finley.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 11, 2023 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. Following visitation, an escorted funeral procession will travel to Ridgecrest Cemetery for a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow the service.
