Barbara Mitchell Gangl of Huntsville passed away peacefully on Monday, May 6, 2024. She was born on February 16, 1941, the daughter of Barnard and Mattie Mae Mitchell.

Barbara grew up the middle of three children and graduated from New Hope High School in 1959. Shortly after graduation, she began work as a secretary stenographer at Redstone Arsenal’s Post Engineer where she met her future husband, Hubert “Hugh” Gangl, Jr. Hugh and Barbara were married on Barbara’s 22nd birthday, February 16, 1963, at the Church of the Visitation in Huntsville.

Barbara was a devoted wife to her husband, a fantastic mother to her two children, an avid gardener, and a lifelong fan of the Auburn Tigers. Those who knew her spoke of her warmth, wisdom and humor. She had a knack for making those she met for the first time feel as if they’d reconnected with a long-lost friend. She was happiest when she was studying Scripture, planting her flowers and vegetables, and spending time with family and friends.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Barnard and Mattie Mae and her siblings, Homer and Terrell. She is survived by her husband, Hugh; sons, Bert and Todd; daughters-in-law, Cheryl and Tammy; and grandchildren, Aaron, Josh, Nate (Allyson), Kylie, Emily (Michael), Megan (Noah) and Caroline.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 9, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home followed by the funeral at 2 p.m. with Chaplain Todd Gangl officiating. Burial at Maple Hill Cemetery will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christian Broadcasting Network, 977 Centerville Turnpike, Virginia Beach, VA 23465-9989.
