Barbara Louise Liggett Miller, 88, of Meridianville, Alabama went to be with our Lord on December 22, 2023, after a long battle with vascular dementia. Born in Birmingham March 15, 1935, Barbara graduated from Jefferson County Schools and attended Howard College (now Samford University) to pursue art. She was a member of the Eastern Star and was active in the local Baptist churches in both the Vestavia Hills and East Lake areas where she lived.

Barbara met and married her loving husband, George Miller while working at Hayes International in Birmingham. They then moved to Huntsville, Alabama where she pursued her career in the arts. Barbara’s talents were many. While living in Huntsville, she taught piano for many years to area children and later on switched to drawing, painting, and sculpting. All of her music students attended the State Music Festival every year and some of her art students even went on to study art in Florence, Italy! She was a wonderful, caring, and attentive teacher who was passionate about the arts and loved her students dearly. Barbara also enjoyed lunch with good friends, a great book, flowers, trips to Gulf Shores with her husband, and her faithful dogs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William D. Liggett and Gustavia (Gussie) Payne Liggett; her infant sister; her husband; and infant great-grandson, Duncan Bates.

She leaves behind daughters, P. Denise Miller (Greg), and Cindy M. Miller, both of Athens, Alabama; son, J. David Miller (Tracey) of Meridianville, Alabama; grandchildren, Jesse Bates and Paden Bates (Abby) both of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Ashlyn M. Miller of Meridianville, Alabama; and great-grandson, Archer Bates of Chattanooga, Tennessee. She leaves behind a legacy….the gift of the arts to generations of the community.

There was a private family service.
