Barbara L. Martin, 80, passed away Friday, August 2, 2024, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born March 7, 1944, to Troy and Lourine Lowrey. She was a school teacher. She began her career at Booneville High School, then, moved to teach at Gulfport Public Schools. She later earned her Master’s Degree and started the second half of her career at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. She enjoyed reading, murder mysteries, gardening and needle point.
A Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 31, 2024, at McMillan Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forked Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
She is survived by her mother, Lourine Lowrey; three daughters, Jennifer Martin, Anna Martin and Elizabeth Winstead; five grandchildren, Michael Martin, Julian Martin, Calliope Martin, Marcel Ockman, and Johanna Martin; two great granddaughters, Joscalyn Pringle and Amelia D’Angelo; one sister, Sharon Taylor; two sisters-in-law, Kay Lowrey, and Martha Johnson; one aunt, Bobbie (J.P.) Wilemon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Douglas Welborn Martin Jr.; her father, Troy Lowrey; brother, Tony Lowrey; grandson, Douglas Martin; two brothers-in-law, Eddie Taylor and Charles Johnson.
