Barbara L. Callahan (nee Ohland) – Obituary

Barbara L. Callahan (nee Ohland) passed away Thursday morning, May 29th, at Decatur Morgan Hospital in Decatur after a short battle with lung cancer. She was 69 years old.

Barbara was raised in New Brunswick, NJ. She briefly attended Rutgers Preparatory School and graduated from New Brunswick High School in 1962. Barbara raised her children in the Beach Haven West section of Manahawkin and Barnegat at the New Jersey Shore.

She married Hugh Callahan in 1983. Over the years, they resided in Vicksburg, MS, Pittsburgh, PA and Swedesboro, NJ, but their home was in Trinity, where they lived for most of their 30 years together.

Barbara usually worked as a bookkeeper, with the notable exception of ten years working in various administrative functions for the Southern Regional School District in Manahawkin, NJ, in the late 1970s-early 1980s. She worked for many years and retired as an accountant at the Decatur Country Club in Decatur.

Barbara was raised and predeceased by her maternal grandparents, William E. and Elizabeth (nee Seals) Ohland of Plainfield and New Brunswick, NJ; and her husband of 30 years, Hugh L. Callahan of Vineland and Barnegat, NJ, who passed on August 22nd of 2013.

She is survived by her four children, Robert Morone Jr., William Morone, Tracey Carluccio and Scott Morone; 11 grandchildren and many lifelong friends.

Thank you to the entire staff at Decatur Morgan Hospital in Decatur and NHC Healthcare in Moulton for all their support, care and compassion.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held in New Jersey at a later date.
