Barbara Holmes Powell , 77, of Toney, passed away Thursday.
She was preceded in death by son, Randy Holmes; mother, Ersie Beatrice Layne; father, Melvin Luther Layne; and brother, Ricky Layne.
Surviving are daughter, Trina Browning; son, Danny (Tina) Holmes; grandson, Nathan Holmes; granddaughter, Jessica Holmes; great-grandson, Bo Holmes; great-granddaughter, Henslee Morrow; brothers, Leon (Bonnie) Layne, Robert (Carol) Layne, and Steve (Katherine) Layne; several nieces and nephews.
Ms. Powell was a member of Grace Full Gospel Church in Athens, Al for over 10 years. She enjoyed singing at church, playing the piano, gathering with her family and friends where they would spend countless hours singing and playing songs. Ms. Powell was a retiree from the Chrysler Corporation where she worked for 30 years. Her family was very important to her and she loved celebrating the holidays cooking and gathering in her home surrounded by those she loved. She was an avid supporter of The University of Alabama football team (ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!).
Visitation will be Sunday 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Services will be held at New Hope Funeral Home, Sunday at 2:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Glenn and Rev. Tammie Johnson officiating. Leon Layne, Robert Layne, Steve Layne, Nathan Holmes, Jerry Hood, and Duane Layne will serve as pallbearers.
Interment will be in the Hampton Cove Memory Gardens.
