Barbara Cooper Williams – Obituary

Barbara Cooper Williams, 80, of Huntsville, passed away Friday. Born in Russellville, AL, she attended Bellgreen High School and graduated from the University of North Alabama in 1958. She then moved to Birmingham and worked for the Federal Housing Administration. In the 1960s she went to work for the Army Rocket Guided Missile Agency for the chief scientist. In early 1970, she took a leave of absence from work to come home and care for her children. During this time she did volunteer work for the American Red Cross and the Huntsville City School System. In the late 1980s, she returned to the work force with Teledyne Brown Engineering, from which she retired in 1995.
Survivors include her husband, Col. Ernest Williams (Ret.) US Army; brother, William Cooper and wife, Barbara, all of Huntsville; son, David Williams and wife Caryn; daughter, Regina Young and husband, Paul; grandchildren, Jack Young, Carson and Hannah Williams; and various nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, November 27 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, November 29 at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greater Huntsville Humane Society or a local animal shelter.
