He was born on, March 20, 1939, in Winston County to McKinley and Pearlie Key. After graduating from Meek High School and marrying his high school sweetheart, he was drafted into the Army where he served his country proudly. He found employment with Piggly Wiggly Alabama Distributing Company which spanned a 45-year career as Personnel/Safety Director where many people sought his advice and benefited from his counsel. He is remembered as a man who worshiped God with both his words and deeds. He was happiest with a deep-sea fishing rod in his hand and the outdoors was his heaven on earth. As illness robbed him of his strength and stamina, it also gave him a softness that we treasured. During this time, he taught us patience and allowed us to give back the love and devotion he showed all of us.

His memory will be cherished by his loving wife, Iva Nell Bennett Key; children, Janet Key McAllister (Paul) and Robin Key Owens (Danny); step-grandchildren, Lindsay Owens Dahlin (Matt), Clai Owens (Jungmin) and Justin Owens. He is survived by two sisters, Vetra Campbell and Marie Stephenson (David).

In lieu of flowers, please donate to O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB in Birmingham, AL.
