FLORENCE-The Florence Lauderdale Public Library will be hosting a book signing event for ‘The Art of the Drive” by Dave Beck on Saturday, May 14 from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M.
“The Art of the Drive” is a look into the mostly unknown world of touring entertainers. It is about life on the road. What it’s like to be on tour with acts like Paul McCartney, U2, The Eagles, Foreigner, Journey, Michael Bublé, Sade, Chicago, Huey Lewis, and many others—a different city almost every day for months at a time, the family that a touring group becomes, everyone from the artist to the band, crew, and drivers, traveling and sometimes living on a forty-five-foot bus with eight to ten others. Driving entertainers on tours all over North America for twenty-five years was an adventure in itself. The challenges along the way only add to the story—tornadoes, blizzards, earthquakes, floods, a thirty-day trek across Canada in January with temps 45 degrees below zero. “The bus stopped moving forward but didn’t stop moving entirely. We started sliding backward, down the hill. I thought about the seven people asleep in their bunks and knew they had no idea of the danger we were in”.
