IMG_0128FLORENCE– A break in the mid-summer heat should bring some relief as the August. First Fridays
will get you sweating in the streets. The event is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 1, from 5-8 p.m. in
downtown Florence.
“Fitness is a way of life for many of us, and this is an opportunity to show those who come to First
Fridays what’s available locally,” said Lexi Sandlin, the First Fridays Chairwoman. “Plus, it’s a lot of fun
to be physically active, especially in a setting outside of a gym.”
Crossfit No’Ala, the Florence High School Quarterback Club, Geronimo Gymnastics, Shoals Yoga,
Allegro Dance Studio, and the YMCA are scheduled to be at First Fridays.
In addition to fitness, the Big River Broadcasting will kick off the music at 5 p.m. with Tosha Hill. Her
set will be followed at 5:45 p.m. with a Zumba Party. Beginning at 6:15 p.m. Sergio Portillo will take the
stage for a round of speed painting. This will be followed at 7 p.m. by Krista Sparks, and, at 8 p.m. 2012_08_03_2384
Waywhileago will take the stage.
“With the fitness and the music taking place at different times on the stage, August’s First Fridays really
does have something for everyone,” Sandlin said. “With the start of school just around the corner, this is
one more opportunity to get out and enjoy downtown Florence and these fun activities.”
More than 75 vendors have been approved for participation in First Fridays in April. Among the artisans
and crafters are those who make jewelry, soap, and clothing, as well as woodworkers and candlemakers.
First Fridays, which is sponsored by Listerhill Credit Union, is a committee of Downtown Florence
Unlimited and takes place the first Friday of every month during March through December. Big River
Broadcasting sponsors the music stage.
