Audrey Maude Townsend, age 97, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2015. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 2, 2015, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Spry-Williams Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. at Florence City Cemetery, with Chris Underwood officiating.
Mrs. Townsend was a lifelong resident of Lauderdale County, having been born on Sept. 22, 1917, to Bertha Hipps Willett and Morris Willett. She was a graduate of Central High School and, prior to her marriage, worked as a bookkeeper. She was a longtime member of Highland Baptist Church, and had a passion for flower gardening and especially enjoyed her church activities.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Townsend was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Townsend; sisters, Hazel Winters, Nellie Threet, Ruth Moore; and brothers, Clarence, Paul, Clyde, John-Alfred and Marvin Willett.
She is survived by her children, Bill Townsend, of Florence, and Carolyn Armstrong, of Anchorage, Alaska, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
