“The Miracle Worker” cast
*All ages are approximate

Helen Keller – A petite girl, 7-10 years of age. Must look young.
Height is a consideration for this role. However, the height of Helen must be compared to that
of Annie Sullivan. Therefore, I will be measuring the girls to compare them with all of the Annie
possibilities. Those wishing to audition for Helen must be able to act blind and deaf. The
audition will require them to do a number of tasks to show how believable they can be as
Helen. I have seen very talented and experienced young actresses not able to handle this. It
does not matter whether you have experience or not. To prepare for this audition, girls should
practice being blind by being able to reach for things without looking at them; be able to feel
for objects and learn about them from their form and structure. Practice deafness by being able
to tune out sounds around you. This is a very physical role and you have to be tough!

Annie Sullivan – Looking for a young actress between the ages of 18 and 26
Capt. Arthur Keller – Male adult actor, 30 or over in appearance
Kate Keller- Female adult actress. Mid to late 20’s/early 30’s in appearance
James Keller – Male actor between 17 and 25
Aunt Ev – Female actress, prefer 50 or older
Viney- Black female, teen to adult.
Percy – Black male, 10 to 15 years old.
Martha – Black female, 8 to 15 years old. Percy’s sister.
The Doctor- Male actor, 30 or over. Small part in the beginning of the show.
Mr. Anagnos – Male actor, 30 or over. Mr. Anagnos is Annie Sullivan’s teacher at the
Perkins Institute in Boston.
Blind Children – Will cast 2 groups of girls/boys between the ages of 7 and 14 to play
the blind children at the Perkins Institute that were friends of Annie. We traditionally
use two groups and alternate performances.
