5e1e0279-1b78-428d-bd0b-340f66da57efATHENS-In response to some customers concerns about readily identifying meter readers, Athens Utilities has issued bright orange hats to employees who conduct meter readings.

Customer Accounts Manager Bill Vaughn said the hats include “Athens Utilities” in black on the front. Meter readers will start wearing the hats Thursday, July 7.

Please note this uniform requirement is for Athens Utilities. While Athens Utilities provides all electrical meters in Limestone County, other utilities provide services for water, sewer and gas. This uniform requirement does not include meter readers from Limestone County Water and Sewer Authority or those from other utilities in the annexed areas.

“If someone is at your Athens Utilities meter, and he or she is not wearing an orange hat, we encourage our customers to call us,” Vaughn said.

Customers can call Customer Accounts at 256-233-8750 if there is a concern about someone who does not appear to be a legitimate meter reader.
