Athens State University Community Band Performing at Singing of the Square

singing on the squareATHENS– The Athens State University Community Band will perform an outdoor concert at Singing on the Square, Friday August 15 at 6:30 p.m. on the east steps of the Limestone County Courthouse.   The event is sponsored by Champion Chevrolet and the Athens Limestone County Visitors Center. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy this free concert.  In the event of rain the concert will be held in the Limestone County Event Center.

The focus of this year’s Singing on the Square Concert will be musical dance numbers.  The band will perform a tango, waltz, polka, as well as a salute to the Soulful 60s.  There will also be one “Happy” song performed from the current billboard charts.

The Community Band, under the direction of Dan Havely, was founded in 2003 and is supported by Athens State University.  The group was conceived as an outlet for local musicians to continue their musical interests.   The band meets weekly throughout the year to practice and welcomes any local musicians with an interest in good music, good fun, and community performances.
