ATHENS – The Athens State University Community Band under the direction of Dan Havely will present its annual Spring Concert on Sunday, May 3 at 3:00pm in the Carter Gymnasium on the Athens State campus.
“This year we are presenting The Sound of Music from Around the World,” states Havely. “We’ll be performing music of Russian, Italian, and Spanish composers but will also be featuring American music as well.”
The concert will also feature selections from the movie “O Brother, Where Art Thou?,” John Philip Sousa’s “The Thunderer March” and selections from Rogers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music.
“We wanted to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this award-winning movie,” added Havely. “It is certainly a favorite and has so many important numbers in the American songbook.”
The concert is free and open to the public. Reservations are not necessary to attend. For more information about the concert, call 256-233-8296.
