lernRIVER FALLS, WISCONSIN– Learning Resources Network (LERN) has selected Athens State
University Center for Lifelong Learning for the best community service among lifelong
learning and continuing education providers. Athens State University Center for Lifelong
Learning was selected from more than 140 applicants from across North America.
One of the worst tornadoes in the town’s history struck just a day after the Athens State
University Center for Lifelong Learning opened. While most people did not have CLL-logo
electricity or Internet access, the Center had both and opened its doors to the
community. Nearly 500 people went to the Center that week.
Since then they have grown the program, kept good numbers and managed it well.
“They are a big influence in a small town,” said Julie Coates, Vice President for LERN
