ATHENS– Students and faculty from the Athens State University chapter of the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) attended the 2016 APICS National Conference in Washington, D.C. September 25 – 27. APICS is the global leader and premier source of the body of knowledge in supply chain and operations management.
Students heard from keynote speakers such as Bill McDermott, CEO of SAP, and Mel Robbins, Commentator and Legal Analyst at CNN. The conference offered seven learning paths featuring more than 65 educational sessions in sales and operations planning, distribution and logistics, operations management, risk and resiliency, supply chain analytics, supply chain leadership, and supply chain strategy.
The Athens State APICS chapter offers students the opportunity to participate in these national conferences, serve in leadership positions, participate in community service projects, and network with school, local, and national chapter members. Students are also able to partner with the business professionals of the Tennessee Valley Chapter of APICS, which was recognized as a GOLD Award Winning Chapter by the organization’s national headquarters.
“We are excited that our students were able to attend and learn about the field of supply chain and operations management outside of a classroom,” states Dr. Mike Essary, Associate Professor of Management of Technology and Chapter Advisor.
Students raised funds throughout the past year to attend the conference and the Tennessee Valley Chapter of APICS sponsored the students’ registration costs. The student chapter of APICS is housed in the College of Business. The advisors are Dr. Mike Essary, Dr. Kim Roberts, and Dr. Scott Cox.
