● Alabama Veterans Museum Coffee Callvet muse

First Saturday of each month, 8 a.m., Alabama Veterans Museum

All veterans are invited to the museum for breakfast and a time of fellowship with fellow veterans.  Contact 256-771-7578.

 

 

● Cruise In on The Squarethe square

First Saturday night each month, April to October, 3-9 p.m.

Enjoy antique vehicles, downtown dining and shopping, and more. No fees. Call 256-457-9179.

 

● City Cemetery Walkscemetery walk

Third Friday of each month, 2-5 p.m., April – September

Learn about the city’s history and tour its historic cemetery. Call 256-232-5411.

 

 

● Athens Saturday Marketathens farmers market

Every Saturday from June 1 through August 31, 8 a.m. to noon, Farmers Market Pavilion, 409 W. Green St.

Items from Clover Coffee, Tune Farm, Alabama’s first certified organic farm, Buddy’s Tomatoes and Produce, Happy Healthy Hummus and more; musical entertainment, local artists, fitness and cooking demonstrations, etc. Get updates on upcoming programs atwww.athenssaturdaymarket.com.

 

● Athens Lions Club Kiddie Carnivalcarnival

June 27 – Aug. 3 on Thursday-Saturday nights, 6:30-9:30 p.m. Will be closed July 4

Rides for kids (no adults): small Ferris wheel, rocket ships, small swings, carousel, train, roller coaster, parachutes, large swings and the scrambler.  Ride tickets, 50 cents. Concessions include: hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, French fries, cotton candy, Dippin’ Dots, funnel cakes and soft drinks. ● Singing on the Squaresinging

July 19 at 6 p.m.

Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy the free concert featuring Dixon Todd and Southern Splendor Chorus. Sponsored by Champion Chevrolet.

 

● 25th annual CASA Mud Volleyballmud volleyball

July 20, 9 a.m., Swan Creek Park

Money raised supports services for seniors, such as wheelchair ramps. Registration will close when 90 teams have registered. If you are interested in having a team or being on a team, call Sandra Zirbel at 256-777-1038. Cost is $20 per team member.

 

● Athens Summer Art Strollsart stroll

July 26 and Aug. 23, 4-8 p.m., The Square

Stroll along The Square among artists offering paintings, crafts, and other items. Get one-of-a-kind art for your home or office, and then enjoy dining at one of our downtown restaurants.

 

● UNA/Athens State Nightlogo UNAASU

July 30, 6 p.m., Center for Lifelong Learning

Alumni and others interested in a Masters of Business in Administration or a Masters of Arts in Elementary Education can learn about the two universities’ collaborative efforts on these degree programs. Food provided. RSVP by July 26 by calling 256-765-4201.
