ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson released a statement concerning the arrest of a suspect who has been charged on charges of Theft 1st Degree:
“On Wednesday morning around 5:30, April 29 the police department received a call of a robbery in the parking lot of Eastside Junction. When officers arrived they located the victim. He told officers he parked in the south east part of the parking lot to go to work. While walking across the parking lot he heard someone walking behind him. He said a black male approximately 5 foot 10 inches, weighing about 175 wearing a black or navy jacket and a mask pointed a pistol at him. The male told him to hand over his keys and cell phone. The vehicle is a blue Hyundai Sonata with a Tennessee tag 9D14D5. The vehicle was last seen traveling east on US 72. The victim was not injured. Anyone with any information is requested to call the Athens Police Department at 256-233-8700.
Christopher Michael Echols was arrested this morning on a warrant for theft of property first degree. Echols is charged with theft of a trailer between March 13, 2020 and March 14, 2020. The trailer was taken from the parking lot of T-Mobile on US 72. Echols was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail.”
