Athens Man Arrested On Grand Jury Warrant Theft 1st Degree

ATHENS-On Friday, March 16 Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson issued a statement on the arrst of a suspect who has been arrested on a grand jury warrant of First Degree Theft of Property

“Jalmal Malcom Petite was arrested Thursday, March 15 on a grand jury warrant for theft of property first degree and a warrant for possession of forged instruments first degree.

In May of 2016 Petite contacted the victim about a ring she was selling on Craig’s List. They agreed to meet. The victim sold the ring to Petite for $2900.00.

The next week the victim attempted to deposit the cash from the sale into her account. The bank identified seventeen of the one hundred dollar bills as counterfeit.  

Investigator Kelly Fussell was able to develop Petite as a suspect in the case and obtained warrants for his arrest. Petite was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail.”
