Atha Cahalan, 94, of Huntsville died Sunday, November 25. Atha was born on a working family farm in Hopkinton, Iowa. She worked at Grissom High School in various positions retiring as the Cafeteria Manager in 1984. She was a devout member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She was an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Meals on-Wheels, and auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Paul; her parents, Evaleena Orr Bacon and Charles Bacon; 3 sisters; 4 brothers; sons-in-law, Chuck Young and Michael Leff; and grandchild, BJ.
She is survived by her 5 children, Pat Cahalan and wife, Marcia, of Titusville, FL, Janet Young of Tampa, FL, Judie Leff of Temple Terrace FL, Joan McPherson and husband, Bruce, of Atlanta, GA, and Mike Cahalan and wife, Anne, of Louisville, KY; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Friday, Nov. 30th, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon at the church with Father Michael Mac Mahon officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to the Holy Spirit Catholic Church or The St. Vincent de Paul Society.
