FLORENCE-The Arts Alive Festival, presented by the Kennedy Douglas Center for the Arts, is an annual two-day arts and crafts festival that takes place in Wilson Park each May. This year’s event is scheduled for May 21-22, and will celebrate the best fine, folk, and craft artists from the region. This year, the registration deadline for artists has been extended until April 1st.
For the 35th year, Wilson Park will come alive with artists, showcasing original artwork in painting, drawing, printmaking, textiles, stained glass, jewelry, sculpture, pottery, woodwork, photography, mixed media, and clay. In addition to art, food trucks, performers, and activities for children make this event a highlight each year for families in The Shoals. Arts Alive features two juried venues: a gallery exhibition and an art market in the park. Artists may apply to participate in either venue or both venues.
The Arts Alive Gallery Exhibition takes place in the Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts complex located
across from Wilson Park. Selected works are displayed for one month and are judged for awards in technique, style, and expression. A gallery preview party opens the weekend with a ticketed event on Friday, May 20, 2022. On Saturday and Sunday, Wilson Park will transform into one of the largest art markets in the southeastern US featuring the region’s foremost artists. Up to 100 juried artists utilizing various mediums sell their work from colorful booths. These artists are also judged for awards by qualified jurors.
The deadline to register as an artist for this year’s festival is April 1st, and all local artists are encouraged to apply. The success of this year’s Arts Alive hinges on the great variety of artists that showcase their work, and we’d like as many as possible to join us. If you have original work you’d like to sell or show, please apply. There are many opportunities for scholarships for emerging artists and those with need.
