FLORENCE-Arts Alive, downtown Florence’s visual arts festival is taking place in Wilson Park and at Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts on the weekend of May 15th and 16th, 2021. The festival will be open on Saturday from 9 am-5 pm, and on Sunday from 10am-5pm. Approximately 80 artists, working in painting, sculpture, printmaking, textiles, mixed media, metal, clay, jewelry, and photography will sell their artwork in booths in Wilson Park; the Arts Alive Gallery Exhibition at Kennedy-Douglass will showcase artwork from approximately 62 artists from May 15th through June 18th, 2021.
Additional festival attractions in the park include an art activity tent for children, specialty food trucks, and a large-scale mural demonstration by UNA art professor Parker Seward. In addition to the Gallery Exhibition, Kennedy-Douglass will display artwork from Florence elementary school children in the breezeway between the Main and Annex galleries. The Kennedy-Douglass Art Center Volunteers organize this annual, juried, art event to raise funds for arts education in area schools and to foster public appreciation for the arts. This year’s juror is Amy Jenkins, Visual Arts Program Manager for the Alabama State Council on the Arts, over $4,000 in prize money will be awarded to artists in several categories across park and gallery participants.
Located at 217 East Tuscaloosa Street in Florence, the Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts is open, free of charge, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Sundays 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Museum programs are made possible, in part, by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts.
