It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Arthur Franklin Woodis (88), who left us on Thursday, February 22, 2024. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Arthur’s life on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Morrison Funeral Home in Cherokee, Alabama, with visitation from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a service following immediately with Buddy Dover and James Atkinson officiating.
Arthur was born on March 27, 1935, in Colbert County to Tom and Dora Woodis. Arthur served his country in the US Army. After his time in the service, Arthur moved back to Colbert County where he supported his family through his love of farming until his retirement. Arthur was a member of Cherokee Methodist Church.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Dora Woodis; brother, Stanley Woodis; sisters: Marie Johnson and Virginia Brown; son in law: Kenny Gonzalez.
Arthur is survived by his loving wife of many years, Virginia (Jean) Woodis; sons: Larry Woodis (Tammy), Athens, AL, and Norman Woodis (Michelle), Cherokee, AL; daughter, Teresa Gonzalez, Chicago, IL; grandchildren: Sean Woodis (Kayla), Evan Woodis (Kelsey), Natalie Gonzalez, Jovonnie Gonzalez, and Josh Gonzalez; great grandchildren: Aubrey, Grayson, Camron, Mia, Gianni, Mason, Arianna, Lily, Kayden, and Zayn who will forever cherish the memories he created with them.
Pallbearers will be Sean Woodis, Evan Woodis, Wally Rickard, Thomas Woodis, David Woodis, and Michael Swift. Honorary pallbearers: Josh Gonzalez, Camron Montanez, Mason Gonzalez, and Grayson Woodis.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org, in Arthur Woodis’s name.
