COLBERT COUNTY – Alabama’s Bicentennial events throughout the state are as colorful and varied as our remarkable history. Located on a hill overlooking historical plantation grounds of an era long past is Bell Mont Mansion. This past week, the mansion – which has for several years been getting some tender loving care and restoration – was the venue for a display of 19th and early 20th Century elegant dinnerware. The place settings, artifacts of China, Crystal Glassware and eating utensils were on display for visitors to get familiar with some of the finer aspects of Antebellum and early 20th Southern Living.

The display featured a special program on 19th century entertaining. And was presented by antiques collector and historian George Terrell. As a part of the larger program, Terrell displayed a complete set of Austrian china arranged in place-settings by courses and described how elaborate dinners were set and served in the 1800’s.

Friends of Belle Mont Mansion and the Colbert County Historical Landmarks Foundation hosted “Art of the Dish.”

The Quad Cities Daily visited the beautiful setting out on the hill and photographed many of the artifacts and paraphernalia, much of which was lent to the program by local residents.
