Arnold Thomas Canup Sr. – Obituary

Arnold Thomas Canup Sr., age 95, of Sheffield, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2016. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, September 2, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Bill Bedsole officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m., at Red Bay City Cemetery, with military honors. Members of the American Legion will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Canup was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the European theatre during World War II. He served in the Battle of the Buldge (Ardennes) and the Rhineland Campaign, and was awarded two bronze stars for his heroic and meritorious service.

Mr. Canup was a member of the United Methodist Church, as well as a lifelong member of the V.F.W. He is preceded in death by his brother, Relton Canup, and sisters, Lela Patterson, Rosie Wilson, Ruth Raines, Ruby Canup, Myrtle Wiginton, and Lessie Mae Cameron.

Surviving relatives include his beloved wife of 75 years, Marjorie B. Canup; sons, Arnold T. Canup Jr. of Washington, D.C., Jackson B. Canup of Las Vegas, NV, and David L. Canup of Riverside, CA; grandchildren, Justin, Paul, Bonnie, Alex, Cole, and Tom Canup; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
