Mr. Archie W. Stephens, 83, died unexpectedly Saturday, October 8, 2016 at North MS Medical Center. He was born in Clarksdale, MS to Grady W. Stephens and Clara Hughes Stephens. He was a graduate of Jonestown High School and attended Mississippi State University. Archie married Linda Porter on June 11, 1959. He served as a Military Police in the U.S. Army during peacetime. He was a tool room supervisor for many years employed by Emhart Corp. in Clarksdale, MS, and later employed by Tecumseh Products in Verona. He enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, and sharing his harvest with others. He was an avid Ole Miss sports fan.
A celebration of life service will be at 3:30 p.m., Monday, October 10, 2016 in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to service time. Private burial will follow.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Linda Stephens of Tupelo; his children, Michael Porter Stephens and Dawn Stephens, both of Tupelo; three brothers, H.L. Stephens (Juanita) of Clarksdale, Perry Stephens (Jean) of Tullahoma, TN, and Doug Stephens, (Janice) of Walthal, MS; sister, Ann Stephens of Cartersville, GA; grandson, Seth Stephens of Tupelo, and great grandson, Seth Stephens; a host of nieces, nephews, and other near relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Grady Stephens, Jr., Russell Stephens, James Stephens, and Walter Stephens, and sister, Margaret Bullock.
