Mrs. Annie Mae Ray Tooke, age 93, of Detroit, AL passed away Friday, September 6, 2019 at the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Guin, AL. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 9, 2019 at 4:00pm from the Otts Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Carter Cemetery. Bro. Jason Clifton to officiate. Visitation will be held at the funeral home prior to the funeral service from 2:00pm until 4:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Detroit Carter Cemetery Fund, C/O Sharron Williams, P.O. Box 37, Detroit, AL 35552.

Pallbearers: Corey Tooke, Armando Duran, Jerry Don Taylor, J.D. Taylor, Wesley Woods, and Tyler Woods.

Honorary Pallbearers: Weston, Aiden, and Carter Woods, and Beau Reagan Taylor.

Annie Mae was born August 5, 1926, to the late Bankhead Hollis Ray and Alva Brown Ray in Detroit, AL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bankhead Hollis Ray and Alva Mae Brown Ray; her husband of 72 years, Lyndon Cicero Tooke; one sister, Allene Ray Goodman and husband Louis Goodman, Jr.; two brothers, Samuel Hollis Ray and Auburn Hoyette Ray; and one brother-in-law, Charles Cooper.

She is survived by one daughter, Ora Mae Tooke Woods and husband R. Sherman Woods of Sulligent, AL; one son, Tony Lynn Tooke and wife Ginger Davis Tooke of Bristow, VA; grandchildren, Amy Woods Taylor and husband Jerry Don Taylor of Starkville, MS, Wesley S. Woods and wife DeAnna B. Woods of Tupelo, MS, Chelsie Lynn Tooke Duran and husband Armando Duran of Alexandria, VA, and Corey Davis Tooke of Bristow, VA; great grandchildren, J.D. Taylor and wife Abby Taylor of Fulton, MS, Laura Beth Taylor of Starkville, MS, and Tyler S. Woods, Weston B. Woods, Aiden L. Woods, and Carter W. Woods, all of Tupelo, MS; one great great grandson, Beau R. Taylor of Fulton, MS; one sister, Reba Ray Cooper of Hoover, AL; nieces and nephews: Becky Goodman Witherspoon (Toby) of Kilgore, TX; Sue Goodman Powell (Craig) of Kingsport, TN; Theresa Cooper Tate (Freddie) of Hoover, AL; Glenn Cooper (Dawn) of Warrior, AL; Stephanie Cooper Henrikson (Chris) of Lawrenceville, GA; Micheal Ray of MS; Kenny Ray (Patricia) of Caledonia, MS; Shelia Ray of Caledonia, MS; their mother, Doris Ray of Caledonia, MS; many nieces and nephews of her late husband; and a host of friends from her community and many friends/caregivers of Sunset Manor Nursing Home.

After Annie Mae and Lyndon were married, she farmed alongside him in the fields, and at the same time began her career outside the home at the Detroit School Cafeteria. She also worked in the garment industry for over 50 years at Tollgate Manufacturing in Hamilton, AL and at Detroit Slacks. Her hobbies were cooking, gardening, and quilting.
