Annie Mae Brackin – Obituary

Annie Mae Brackin, age 94, passed away Nov. 19, 2017. She was born to Lucille and Will Brackin on July 14, 1923.

Mrs. Brackin worked for Bell South and AT&T for 43 years. She began as a local operator in Sheffield and was promoted to management in 1948. She worked in Cullman, Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, Alexander City, Sylacauga, Talledega, Fort Payne, Gadsden, Anniston, and Birmingham. She was a member and officer in Business and Professional Women’s club, Charter Member of Tide Pride at the University of Alabama, and attended most of Alabama’s ballgames before becoming disabled. She was a member of First Methodist Church in Sheffield, First Methodist in Anniston, Highland Methodist Church in Sheffield, and Grace United Methodist in Birmingham where she held finance position and volunteered on various committees of the church, and she remained there until it closed. She worked on the building of Genesis Church. She was a member of Irondale United Methodist Church and a supporter of Rainbow Omega in Estaboga, Alabama.

Mrs. Brackin was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Lucille Brackin; brothers, Haskell and Paul Brackin; sisters, Eva Warnick (Bud) and Pauline Smartt; and niece, Jan Smartt.

She is survived by a niece, Deborah Warnick, Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee; nephew, Doug Warnick (Karla), of Marietta, Georgia; and cousins, Jim Moore (Pat) and Billy Moore (Joyce).

Visitation for Mrs. Brackin will be Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood, Alabama followed by a chapel service at 11 a.m. The family will have a reception honoring Mrs. Brackin’s life at Valley Chapel following the funeral service.

Burial will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Shaw Cemetery in Colbert County, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Irondale United Methodist Church, 400 Deering St., Irondale, AL 35210.
