Annie Laura Williams, daughter of the late Natus Davis and Laura Naomi Locklayer (affectionately known as Mama Laura), was born April 30, 1922 in Hillsboro, AL. She was the youngest of eight children who all preceded her in death: (siblings) Lawrence (Edith), Nate (Mary), Curtis (Rebecca), Dale (Esther), Myrtle (Foster), Mersie (Solomon), Bernard (Elvira).

At an early age, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and attended Mama Laura’s family church. She attended the local schools in Lawrence County, and attended Tennessee Valley High School. She went to Alabama A&M University, graduating in 1945 with a bachelor’s Degree in English. She went back to her community to teach at Tennessee Valley High School as an English Teacher.

Annie Laura met the love of her life, the late Dr. Cornelius Arnett Williams (affectionately known as C.A.), while he was assigned as the County Extension Agent to Lawrence County. They often wrote each other love letters while they were dating, and they soon fell in love. They were united in holy matrimony soon thereafter. This union was blessed with three children, Ronald, Noland, and Linda. Her husband Cornelius preceded her in death in September of 1981, and her daughter Linda Williams Brown, preceded her in death in March of 2011.

C.A., Annie Laura, and their family lived in several cities across the nation during their marriage, including spending a few years in Ithaca, NY while C.A. was completing his advanced degrees, and in Maryland where C.A. served as the Associate Administrator of Corporate Extension Services of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and ended up in Huntsville, AL, where C.A. served as the Executive Vice President of Agricultural Affairs for Alabama A&M University.

They joined Lakeside United Methodist church, where they were devoted members. Annie Laura was an active member and leader of several auxiliary women’s groups, including the Society of Professional Women and the Mary Binford Jordan Circle of the United Methodist Women, was actively involved in a local bowling league, and was loved my many. She loved her family deeply, her smile and laugh could fill an entire room, she was gifted at crocheting, and she had a passion for God’s Word.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Ronald Williams, and Noland Williams (Wyvette); her son-in-law, Preston Brown (Terry); her six grandchildren: Dr. Monica Valentine (Dre) Ronald Williams (Kristi), Kristen Wilson (Samuel), Noland Ryan Williams (Michelle), Stacey Dickens (Wayne), and Alyson Williams; and her eleven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
