Virginia Fenton Anna Virginia Atkins Fenton, age 89, of Athens, AL, passed away at home on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

Virginia was born February 23, 1936, in Morgan County, AL, the daughter of Alvin Atkins and Mazie (Stinson) Atkins.

Virginia graduated from Morgan County High School in 1954. She worked as a nurse’s aide, worked at Glenn Insurance, Decatur, and was a secretary at NASA, Huntsville. After marrying Robert Fenton in 1963, she chose to become a full-time homemaker. Favorite activities during Virginia’s long life included birdwatching, piano playing, reading, cooking, gardening, and landscaping.

Virginia was a member of Isom’s Chapel Methodist Church, and also received great comforts of faith in her later years from the internet ministries of First Baptist Church Atlanta and gospel pianist Howard Smith, Jr.

Remaining to cherish Virginia’s memory are husband, Robert Fenton; daughter, Amy (Fenton) McEniry (Michael); sister, Dorothy Segars (Harold); nephew, Russell Segars (Sabrina); niece, Meleah Cubillo (Miguel); their extended families; and several cousins. Preceding Virginia in death are her parents, Alvin Atkins and Mazie (Stinson) Atkins.

A grave-side service will be held Friday, June 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at the Isom’s Chapel Methodist Church cemetery, with Brother Bill Stone officiating. No visitation is planned.
