On Wednesday, January 15, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Anna Laura Langston Herndon passed away at age 94. Born in Centerville, AL on December 17, 1930, she was a graduate of the University of Alabama in 1951 and a member of Delta Zeta Sorority.

While in Tuscaloosa, she met her husband and lifelong partner, Earl P. Herndon. The couple would later move to Ft. McArthur, CA for Mr. Herdon to complete his military service as 1st Lt in the US Army in 1954. Anna and Earl would move to Huntsville in that same year as Mr. Herndon began his career with NASA during the early years at Redstone Arsenal.

Anna also began her new job with the Pensions and Security Agency (later known as the Department of Human Resources of Madison County), retiring after 23 years as Supervisor of the Eligibility Unit. Anna was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Huntsville, and past President of the Pilot Club, Huntsville Chapter, which served the community needs of needy children and elderly adults of Madison County.

She is survived by her daughter, Sally Webb (Gary); grandson, Rusty Hudgen of Huntsville; granddaughter, Laura Palonen (Samu); and great-grandson, Elias Palonen of Bradenton. FL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl P. Herndon, her son, Billy Herndon, and her brother, Pat Langston of Mobile, AL.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, at Maple Hill Cemetery, for immediate family and friends.
