Ann Elizabeth Curtis Bailey, 83, of Huntsville passed away Wednesday. Born and raised in Elkton, TN, she graduated from Elkton High School in 1956. Ann attended Warren Wilson College in North Carolina and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 1960 with a degree in Education.
She moved to Huntsville and began a 26-year teaching career in the Huntsville City School system, 21 of those at Blossomwood Elementary. A 60-year member of First Baptist Church, she helped start the Child Development Center and served on their board. After retirement, Ann enjoyed going on mission trips and was a member of WMU. Known as “Gran”, she adored spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved gardening, cooking, needlework and was an avid reader.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Willie Curtis and her son, Philip Bailey. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Doyle Bailey; sons, James Bailey (Teresa) and John Bailey (Mary Margaret); grandchildren, Andrew Bailey (Jenny), Curtis Bailey, Jonathan Bailey (Emily), Meagan Oates (Harris), Kendall Ann Bailey and Elizabeth Bailey; great-grandchildren, John Winters (Win) Bailey and Ann Hopkins (Annie) Bailey; sister, Margaret Louise Curtis Mullins (Don); four nieces; four nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, August 7 at First Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow in the sanctuary with Dr. Travis Collins and Joy Moore officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
