It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Anita B. Jones, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who was called to be with her Maker at the age of 87. Known for her big heart, strong personality, and vibrant spirit, Anita touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
A devoted widow, Anita was the cherished mother of three adopted children: Leah Mae Crim, Cande Mia Ward and her husband Bill, and Charles “Chuck” Harrison Jones and his wife Julie. She was an adoring grandmother to Michael Crim (26), Carter Ward (24), Isabel Ward (23), Harrison Jones (25), Hayden Jones (22), and Anna Kathryn Jones (15). Family was the center of her world, and she found her greatest joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren—whether cheering at their school events, sharing in family celebrations, or simply enjoying a sunny afternoon at the pool or on the golf course.
She lived a life full of purpose and passion. Though she was born in Birmingham, AL, she grew up in Cocoa, FL, and graduated from Cocoa High School in 1955. She received a Nursing degree from University Hospital (UAB) in 1958. A Registered Nurse by profession, she dedicated many years of her career to caring for others with kindness, compassion, and skill. She was a fixture in her children’s schools as a volunteer nurse and active PTA officer. She was also a leader in the junior golf program at Valley Hill Country Club, where her impact was deeply felt. As a “band mom,” she was a proud supporter of her children’s musical endeavors, and her love for her family and community was ever-present.
Her strong personality and quirks made her a unique and unforgettable presence. She was outgoing, lively, and always ready with a witty remark, a joke, or a word of encouragement.
Anita’s commitment to service extended far beyond her family. She became well-known for her volunteer efforts with many organizations including Meals on Wheels, CASA/Enable, and Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, in addition to various programs at her own Trinity United Methodist Church.
Often times, Anita felt called to lead or organize activities such as the planting of many trees at Weatherly Elementary School in the 1970s, numerous petting zoo experiences both at her home and at Weatherly, and hosting many field trips to her home over the years to share her collection of over 3,700 Santas Clauses.
Anita and her late husband of 55 years, Charlie, were long-time snowbirds, spending many winters in Florida where she formed lasting friendships and embraced the joy of being in the warmth of the sun. Anita and Charlie went on a successful blind date in the spring of 1959 and were married in 1961. Her love for golf became a cherished part of her routine, and she could often be found enjoying a round with friends or practicing her swing at the local course.
In recent years, she became affectionately known on TikTok as “The Santa Lady,” where her spirited, joyful personality delighted thousands as she showed off her Santa Claus collection to people across the world. Her humor, kindness, and quirky sense of fun resonated with many, and she never missed an opportunity to share her contagious smile.
Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, family, and friends, as well as in the countless lives she touched. She was a woman who gave unconditionally, loved deeply, and lived fully. She will be missed beyond measure, but her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her.
A celebration of Anita’s life will be held on Monday, April 7 at Trinity United Methodist Church, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember her vibrant spirit. Visitation will be at 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. It is requested that attendees wear bright colors in Anita’s honor as she always wore colorful clothes.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Trinity Methodist Choir or the Trinity Organ Fund in her honor.
Rest in peace, Mom. You were loved beyond words, and your legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing you.
