“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”
2 Timothy 4:7-7
Angela McGlathery Henry (affectionately called “Gigi”) was born May 10, 1957, in Huntsville, Alabama, to the late James Westley (“Pete”) Brandon and Armanda (“Mickey”) McGlathery. Her spirit passed from this world on December 16, 2023, to a place not built with hands.
At the age of 6, Angela accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at Phillips Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Huntsville, AL where she attended faithfully with her grandmother, the late Mrs. Nannie Mae Brandon. There, she sang in the choir, played the piano, and participated in numerous service clubs and worship programs throughout her youth. She was raised in the Edmonton Heights community, where she made special, lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by a special aunt, Mrs. Janice Laughinghouse, who was instrumental in being a special part of her life.
She received her early education in the Huntsville Public School system and graduated from Lee High School in 1975. Angela was an accomplished pianist and a talented vocalist. She played in the LHS concert band and sang in the choir. She later attended Michigan State and Alabama A & M Universities.
In 1997, Angela met Ron Henry through a life-long friend. They were friends for seven years before dating and marrying on August 6, 2004. In November of that year, Angela and Ron moved to Mitchellville, MD. They remained in Maryland until Angela’s failing health brought them back to Huntsville to be among friends and family.
In addition to her passion for music, Angela was a woman of great initiative and persistence. She did most things she set her mind to. She loved to travel and enjoyed working in the travel industry. She often spent long hours planning exciting trips for family, extended family, and friends. Angela was very intelligent and had a gift for tutoring her great-nieces and nephews. She recently found a love for family history and spent many hours researching the ancestry of the Brandons, McGlatherys, and Henrys.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving husband, U.S. Army Sgt. Major (Retired) Ronald Henry of Washington, D.C.; a stepson, Kyron Henry of Killeen, TX; two grandchildren, DeAndre Henry and Avery Reid of Killeen, TX; a stepdaughter, Desiree Williams (Ramata) of Woodbridge, VA; four siblings, Pastor Gregory McGlathery (Janice), Frederick McGlathery (Regina), Vannessa McGlathery, and LeTeisha Elliott (Paul) all of Huntsville, AL; a stepmother, Olivia Brandon of Huntsville, AL; a godfather, Jerome Hutton of Berkeley, CA; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
