In my family we have always supported the Angel Tree tradition. My child has every year picked out an angel of similar age and has enjoyed choosing things for the angel he chose.

This year, the Salvation Army will be using two (2) locations in the area for the angel trees and they are Dillards and the Muscle Shoals location of Long Lewis Ford. There is a certain amount of paperwork in that the angels have to be matched to the bag of gifts for that angel and everything needs to work properly for this program to work.

I always took my son from the time that he was born to pick out an angel. My thought was that sooner or later some older child would tell him, incorrectly, that there was no Santa Claus. Through the Angel Tree, I built years of evidence to the contrary and looked forward to the day that we had that conversation and I told him without doubt that there was a Santa Claus and there is a Santa Claus and he lives in all of us. I guess my son knew he had a good thing going with Santa Claus and we never had that conversation. The funniest Christmas story that I have is when after we put the cookies and milk out and he went to bed, I took my hunting boots, scrounged them around in the ashes and made tracks out of the chimney over to the cookies. The look on his five year old face when he on his own saw where Santa Claus had been tickles me to this day.

The Salvation Army’s annual Angel Tree is a charity event that provides a great opportunity for those who wish to make a difference and bring a smile to a child’s face on Christmas morning. Please participate and make a difference.

Buckle up and drive safely.
